A Review of the Literature on Configuration Management Tools
Configuration management tools help administrators in defining and automating system configurations. With cloud computing, host numbers are likely to grow. IaaS (infrastructure as a service) offerings with pay-per-use pricing models make fast and effective deployment of applications necessary. Configuration management tools address both challenges. In this paper, the existing research on this topic is reviewed comprehensively. Readers are provided with a descriptive analysis of the published literature as well as with an analysis of the content of the respective research works. The paper serves as an overview for researchers who are new to the topic. Furthermore, it serves to identify work related to an intended research field and identifies research gaps. Practitioners are provided with a means to identify solutions to their organizational problems
Testing in Big Data: An Architecture Pattern for a Development Environment for Innovative, Integrated and Robust Applications
Big Data is a crucial pillar for many of todayâs newly emerging business models. Areas of application range from consumer analysis over medicine to fraud detection. All of those domains require reliable software. Even though imperfect results are accepted in Big Data software, bugs and other defects can have drastic consequences. Therefore, in this paper, the software engineering sub discipline of testing is addressed. Big Data exhibits characteristics which differentiate its processing software from those that process traditional workloads. Consequently, an architecture pattern for testing that can be integrated into development environments for Big Data software is proposed. The paper features a detailed description of the artifact as well as a preliminary plan for evaluation
Low-code Development Platform Usage: Towards Bringing Citizen Development and Enterprise IT into Harmony
The ongoing digitization of our world leads to many areas of our lives being more pleasant and improved. New technologies and paradigms are emerging to support the development of software and systems. Their proliferation not only leads to higher complexity of potential solutions, but also to the problem of finding qualified people. Especially enterprises, which are constantly confronted with this problem, are increasingly considering low-code development platforms (LCDP) to allow the development of software by inexperienced and untrained citizen developers. However, at this point, non-functional requirements, such as performance and security, can require a thorough system understanding. In this work, we identify issues that may occur when citizen developers use LCDPs, allowing to deduce success factors for their implementation. Eventually, this shall help decision makers when introducing LCDPs into their environments
Industrialization in Cloud Computing with Enterprise Systems: Order-to-Cash Automation for SaaS Products
Industrialization has led to efficiency and effectiveness gains in manufacturing industries. Industrialization approaches such as standardization or sourcing are also key concepts in modern service companies. Therefore, current IS research studies how to transfer industrialization approaches to IT service production in order to increase efficiency and effectiveness. Automated and integrated value creation, as supported by ERP systems, have only been limitedly researched in the context of IT service production, although companies see this as an important area of improvement. In this paper, a model of how to automate and integrate an order-to-cash process for providers who offer SaaS products is proposed. The focus lies on the service provisioning process step and the model is evaluated with a prototype implementation. This research has implications for researchers and practitioners alike, as it proposes how to more effectively and efficiently deliver IT services, and use established IS research to do so
Contrasting the Necessary Skills of Leaders in Classical and Agile Software Development
As a consequence of the necessities of the digital age, agility is becoming more and more important in software development. Consequently, agile change management is increasingly coming into focus and many projects are undergoing a transformation process from classic software development to agile software development. Through this, managers are confronted with new tasks and requirements. To explore the associated effects and needs, this publication examines how managers who have worked in traditional software development apply their skills learned there to agile software development. For this purpose, six interviews with industry experts were conducted and the corresponding results are presented and discussed

ERP for the IT Service Industry: A Structured Literature Review
The industrialization of the IT service industry aims at transferring concepts of traditional manufacturing companies to IT service providers in order to achieve efficiency gains. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems have been irreplaceable for traditional manufacturing industries in achieving todayâs efficiency level. As the provisioning of IT services exhibits parallels to traditional manufacturing the transfer of ERP concepts could be valuable in helping IT service providers become more efficient.
The current state of the art of academically researched, full-fledged ERP systems is assessed via a comprehensive structured literature review. The search space spanned 97 selected journals and 27 conferences from 1996 to 2012.
This review yields only six relevant publications which suggests that this is a niche topic in mainstream IS research. It is argued that a reference model for an ERP for the IT service industry would be beneficial to improve the efficiency of IT service providers
Ein Unternehmensinformationsmodell fĂŒr den Wissentransfer mit Anwendungssystemen. Der aktuelle Stand von Enterprise GPS

Enterprise GPS for Industrie 4.0
Quality Assurance and Traceability in Containerized Continuous Delivery Process
International audienceCompanies embrace digitalization to have a shorter time to market. This drive for digitalization also demands that the quality of products and services is high. Containerization is one of the concepts that are core to achieving these objectives in information technology today as it is central to the development and delivery of software products. Therefore, to meet the expectations, the containerization process needs state-of-the-art quality assurance. To achieve this, a quality assurance methodical procedure is being developed with bi-directional traceability. Its usefulness is demonstrated by integrating and successfully applying it into the continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipeline of the Volkswagen Group IT
